Satellite groups

CLEA started as a single research group that remains active. It was founded in May of 2020 with the purpose of uniting researchers from all over the country around related themes and interests. Despite contemplating a wide spectrum of theoretical positions and inclinations, the group assumes that cognitive, linguistic and affective processes cannot be understood outside the agent’s situated activities in their (physical and social) environment. The main proposals and activities of the group are 1) to encourage the study, debate and academic production around these themes; and 2) to establish a support and debate group on works in progress and new proposals....

GEMA (Research Group on the Philosophy of Animal Minds) is a research group dedicated to contemporary philosophical and scientific debates concerning the mental capacities of non-human animals. The group discusses the implications of language for human mental life, including higher cognitive processes, interpersonal communication, navigation of the social environment, creativity, and imagination. From transdisciplinary perspectives, drawing on linguistics, philosophy, neuroscience, psychology, and literature, we discuss the role of language in the acquisition, processing, storage, and use of information; in processes of perception and attention; in the production and activation of memory; and in the use of speech and writing for communication and the invention of alternative worlds....

The group is dedicated to studying the architecture and functioning of the human mind, investigating the mental processes underlying behavior, from the reception of sensory stimuli to the execution of complex actions. From an interdisciplinary perspective that engages with neuroscience and philosophy, we explore how individuals acquire, transform, store, retrieve, and use information.
